HONEY
Our aim is to provide 100% pure unadulterated honey.
Barker Bees are in awe of immense positive impact of bees on the environment and their ability to produce “liquid gold”. We have the utmost respect for bees and their well-being is of primary concern to all of us at Barker Bees.
Our aim is to provide 100% pure, unadulterated honey. As you may well know, honey is an incredible natural product which is high in antioxidants, has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, with the added bonus that is delicious too!
Bees cannot be “caged bees”, they are the ultimate free-range food supplier as they are free to come and go as they please. They are able fly where they like and feed on whatever they choose. If the swarm is not happy for any reason, the queen will leave to find another home and her faithful swarm will follow.
With this in mind, in order for Barker Bees to provide a supply of beautiful honey, we ensure we have happy, busy, buzzy bees by placing the hives near abundant food and water sources and protecting the bees from harmful chemicals. We only take the hive’s surplus honey and leave their brood box full to ensure the future viability of the swarm.
In the natural bush, plants flower at different times of the year and provide a constant supply of nectar and pollen for the bees. The honey produced will be a delicious mix of flavours from the local plants within a 3-5km radius of the hive. The colour, taste and consistency of honey will vary according to what the bees have been feeding on.
On farmlands there is generally one crop grown which will only flowers for a certain period of time. This will result in a more specific flavour of honey e.g. saligna or macadamia, but it is a far more labour intense operation as the bees have to be moved on and off the farms.
The taste and colour of our delicious honey will vary according to where the bees have been foraging, but what won’t change is that our honey is pure, natural, and sourced from bees that are impacting our environment in a positive way.
What you need to know about pure honey is that it will crystallise over time. Crystallisation is a natural process that happens at different rates depending on the type of honey and the temperature. Once crystallised, you can place your bottle of honey in warm water which will restore the honey to its original liquid state. Remember not to heat the honey to above 60⁰C or its natural goodness will be destroyed. Microwaving the crystallised honey will also destroy its natural goodness.
At Barker Bees we strive to be environmentally sensitive. Our honey is packaged in glass jars not plastic, and the label is printed directly onto the jar, which means less plastic and makes our jars easier to recycle. Win win!
Our honey is delicious. The taste and colour will vary according to where the bees have been foraging, but what won’t change is that our honey is pure, natural, and sourced from bees that are impacting our environment in a positive way.
